Washing of the Feet Liturgy

During Holy Week Members of L’Arche Melbourne gathered for our annual washing of the feet liturgy. This was such a privileged time for those of us there. It was a great joy to have some members of the local parish join us for this special evening.  Natasha Crozier played the role of Jesus, and led the way in showing us how to wash another’s feet, with quiet reverence and attentiveness. It was beautiful to witness people from all walks of life being called together to serve one another. While we are often comfortable with doing the washing part, it can be difficult to allow another to do something for us. It requires us to be vulnerable and to let go of control. It is this mutual vulnerability that is at the heart of our life in L’Arche.

My Weekends at L’Arche by Lucette Crozier

My weekends at L’Arche are a time of peacefulness and caring. We are always patient with different needs. It makes me feel welcome. I help prepare meals and I get to know people. The most important thing for me is that I can talk to people, they don’t make fun of me, they take me for who I am and this really helps me. In L’Arche we treat everyone as equals. I try to be joyful and to talk to everyone and find out how they are. I like going to the movies, going for walks along the beach and getting to know people. I like the way that in L’Arche we just try to live simply and take things as they come.

In my Garden by Jon Tarrant

In my garden we have a Tea tree. It was planted in 1969, the year I was born. It’s fantastic!

I grew up in this garden. It’s a great garden, all the flowers...white daisies.

I like to show people around, they love it.

They love the trees and the birds.

Listen to the birds.

I dance in the garden sometimes.

I love being in my garden.
