Dear Friend, I’m writing today on behalf of L’Arche Australia to ask for your support help. We are continuing to use ‘Share a Meal’ as our main fundraising event during the month of August. We have chosen August as this is the month that L’Arche was founded in 1964 – August 4. L’Arche Beni-Abbes Meditation Group “Back to Base” World Community for Christian Meditation This group is now meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Come and join us to meditate for 20 minutes, listen to a short reading and then share a cup of tea. On Saturday the 30th May 2015 the Beni-Abbes Community celebrated its 29th birthday with a shared meal at the St James Hall in New Town. Around 80 people enjoyed a delicious meal complete with birthday cake and dancing. The hall was beautifully decorated and it was a great evening! Many thanks to those who coordinated the food and all the arrangements for the evening – it is much appreciated.
Early in 1982, Mrs Marion Allen, a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish died, leaving her house in 40 Pirie Street to the Church to be used for charitable purposes. So the question arose of how the house could be used to best fulfil Mrs Allen’s wishes. The local priest at the time Fr Terry Yard had an interest in L’Arche and had a dream to see a L’Arche Community be formed here in Hobart. Then in 1984, Eileen Glass (founding member of L’Arche Australia) brought Jean Vanier to Hobart to conduct an Easter Faith and Light Retreat. This visit also […]
